Ifinally bit the bullet and took her apart. The actual specs for the space between the valve and the rocker arm is 0.0016". One of my valve was close to 0.006" and another was around 0.004". The whole process wasn't that bad. Time consuming but so worth it. The valves were easily adjustable. I can't believe how smooth it sounds now.

Firstremove the fuel tank from your XV1600. Next, look for a bank of eight fuses and one diode located on the main wire harness, along the upper frame rail under your tank (see diagram below).
